Which One Is Right for You?
You're in Metro Manila or an area with very stable grid power (less than 1 brownout/month), you're primarily focused on the lowest upfront cost and fastest payback, and you don't have critical loads that can't tolerate a power interruption.
You experience brownouts more than once a month, you currently run a diesel generator, you have a home business, cold storage, medical equipment, or work-from-home setup that can't be interrupted, or you want complete energy independence during grid events.
Default to hybrid. The grid reliability difference between Metro Manila and provincial Philippines is substantial. For most Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, and Mindanao customers, hybrid is the practical standard — not a premium upgrade.
Can I Upgrade from On-Grid to Hybrid Later?
Technically yes — but it's not as simple as adding a battery. A standard on-grid inverter cannot manage battery storage. To upgrade, you'd need to replace the inverter (₱25,000–₱45,000) and add the battery bank. The total cost of an on-grid system + later upgrade is typically higher than buying hybrid upfront.
If you anticipate ever wanting brownout protection, buying hybrid at installation is the better financial decision — even if it seems premature. Some hybrid inverters (Solis, Deye) also allow adding battery capacity later if you start with a smaller bank, which gives flexibility to expand as your needs grow.
